Marya Kain

Marya Kain, MS, CMC Early in her almost 40, year career Marya recognized the value of human relationships. She saw that the people she cared for, no matter how affected they were by their dementing illnesses, responded positively to the heart-to-heart connection she offered, often decreasing their incidents of risky behaviors. Throughout her career, Marya has studied the research on a variety of dementia related topics. Marya has Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Psychology, and a Double Major Bachelors of science in Exercise Science and Psychology. Marya is also a Certified Behavior Consultant and a certified Aging Life Care Manager. Marya has held a variety of positions including Assisted Living Facility and Residential Care Facility Administrator, Dementia Care Program Director, Medical Social Worker, Alzheimer’s Care Unit Consultant,Alzheimer’s Support Group Facilitator, and Dementia Educator. Currently, in addition to her work through Power of the Heart, as presenter and a behavior consultant, Marya works as an Aging Life Care Manager, assisting individual clients and their family to successfully navigate the many transitions involved in aging.  She provides this care through the Medford office of Interim Health Care. Marya is frequently invited to present on a variety of topics related to care giving including dementia, Sundowner’s syndrome, abuse prevention, fall prevention, losses, stress reduction, person-centered approach, strength based planning, validation therapy, self-talk, control bull’s-eye and others. Participants have included facility staff and management, Home Care professionals,  Home Health Agencies, Home Health Aide Association members, Alzheimer’s Association organized event attendees, Rotary Club members, Adult Foster Home Association members, Making Oregon Vital for Elders member, Stephen’s Ministers and others. Marya is a Master Trainer and Class Leader for Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for the Family Care Giver, a Legacy Health System program for family care providers. One of the highlights of Marya’s career was presenting at the International Eden Alternative 2008 International Conference. Another is being a contributor to three deficiency-free Oregon Client Care Monitoring Unit surveys.  More recently, Marya has been the keynote speaker at several conferences, and spoke at the 2017 American Society on Aging: Aging in America Conference in Chicago.
